AI SEO Course Study 2026: 65 AI SEO Courses Compared, and Fewer Than Half Teach Answer Engine Optimization

New open dataset tracks what each AI SEO course actually covers, what it costs, and whether it teaches the skills AI search now rewards
DENVER, Colorado (September 27, 2026)- The AI SEO Course Study 2026 today released an open dataset covering 65 AI SEO courses from 45 providers. It is the largest public comparison of AI SEO training published this year. Each course was checked against the provider's own official page, and every attribute is scored yes, no, or unverified. Unverified values are left out of the totals, so each figure below carries its own denominator.
The data is free to use under a CC BY 4.0 license and can be downloaded as JSON and CSV at aiseocourse.study/data/.
What is an AI SEO course?
An AI SEO course teaches people how to get a brand, page, or product found, cited, and recommended by AI search systems such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Perplexity, alongside traditional Google rankings. The category overlaps with courses sold as GEO (generative engine optimization), AEO (answer engine optimization), and LLM SEO. Those terms overlap, but they are not synonyms.
Key findings (dataset dated September 24, 2026, version 2.0)
Most AI SEO courses teach GEO. Far fewer teach AEO. 34 of 48 courses with a verified answer (71%) cover generative engine optimization. Only 20 of 48 (42%) cover answer engine optimization.
AI citations are now core curriculum. 39 of 51 courses (76%) teach how pages get cited inside AI answers, and 44 of 59 (75%) teach how to measure AI visibility.
Entity SEO is the biggest gap. Only 17 of 60 courses (28%) teach entity optimization, even though entities are how AI systems decide which brands to name.
Off-page work is underrepresented. 25 of 57 courses (44%) cover links or off-page signals.
Most training is free. 27 of 48 courses with a published price (56%) cost nothing, including options from Semrush, HubSpot, and Ahrefs.
Paid prices vary widely. Among 11 one-time paid courses, the median price is $299 (range $189.99 to $997). Among 5 monthly memberships, the median is $149 per month. 17 of 65 courses do not publish a price at all.
Live help is rare. Only 15 of 61 courses (25%) include live support, and 9 of 60 (15%) include a practitioner community. One of the few programs built around both is AI SEO Rainmakers, the membership led by SEO practitioner Charles Floate, which pairs its course library with weekly live calls and a community of more than 370 members.
Some "AI SEO" courses are not about AI search. 8 of 65 courses use ChatGPT or other AI tools to do conventional SEO faster but do not teach visibility inside AI answers.
Certificates are common. 39 of 49 courses (80%) award a certificate of completion.
Why the study was built
"Searchers asking for the best AI SEO course are getting ranked lists, not data," said Bike Hawley, who compiled the study. "Nobody could tell you how many courses actually teach answer engine optimization, or what the median course costs. Now anyone can check, and anyone can cite it."
A live check of Google results for "AI SEO course" on September 25, 2026 showed course sales pages from Coursera, Semrush, HubSpot, and Jellyfish, a Reddit thread, and one editorial list from CXL. No results page in the top 10 offered course-level data that could be downloaded or checked.
Course-by-course reviews
Buyers who want a written verdict on individual programs, including pricing history, curriculum, and tradeoffs, can read the companion AI SEO course reviews at AISEOCourse.review. The review site tracks price and membership changes with a dated evidence ledger updated monthly.
Methodology
Each of the 65 courses was reviewed on its official provider page. Ten curriculum attributes were recorded (GEO, AEO, LLM citations, entity SEO, AI measurement, traditional SEO, links and off-page, community, live support, and certificate), along with price, format, and level. An attribute counts as "yes" only when the provider states it. Attributes the provider does not state are marked unverified and excluded from that percentage. Formats in the dataset: 48 self-paced, 9 live cohort, 6 membership or community, and 2 document or guide. The full method and source list are published at aiseocourse.study/methodology/.
The dataset is updated as providers change prices or curriculum. Every revision is versioned and dated.
