EliteAEO Publishes State of the AEO Agency Market 2026, a Hand-Checked Look at 287 AI Search Optimization Providers
New report finds that fewer than one in three eligible answer engine optimization agencies publish a price, and about half state that they report AI visibility to clients.
WEST PALM BEACH, FL, (September 27, 2026) - EliteAEO, an independent ranking of answer engine optimization (AEO), generative engine optimization (GEO) and AI SEO agencies, has published the State of the AEO Agency Market 2026. The report summarizes what 287 providers publish about their own work, including evidence, pricing, AI measurement, specialization and location.
AEO is the practice of helping a business get named, cited or recommended in answers from AI systems such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini. As more buyers start their research inside those tools, the number of agencies selling AEO has grown quickly. EliteAEO built its dataset to give businesses a way to compare those providers on checked evidence rather than on agency-written "best of" lists.
Every provider in the dataset was reviewed by a person against its own website and at least one independent third-party profile. Of the 287 providers profiled, 245 met the eligibility rules for a ranking and 187 were verified.
Key findings
Pricing is rarely public. 73 of 245 eligible providers publish a starting price. The median disclosed starting price is $1,500, and the middle half of disclosed prices runs from $999 to $3,000. SaaS is the most expensive vertical in the dataset, with a $5,000 median disclosed starting price.
Many providers do not say whether they measure AI visibility. 128 of 245 eligible providers state that they report AI visibility, citations or share of voice to clients. 116 do not say either way.
Case studies are still uncommon. 53 of 245 eligible providers publish at least one case study with results in a vertical they are ranked for. Another 67 name clients without publishing results.
Most providers are generalists. 136 of 245 eligible providers are ranked in exactly one vertical, and 236 sell full-service AEO rather than advisory, content or software.
Offices cluster in a few metros. 139 of 245 eligible providers have a confirmed office in one of the 45 US metros EliteAEO tracks, led by New York, Austin and San Diego.
"Buyers are being asked to pay for AI search visibility without a common way to compare who actually delivers it," said a spokesperson for EliteAEO. "We wanted a dataset where every number has a base, every provider is checked by a person, and nobody can pay to move up."
How the rankings work
EliteAEO ranks providers separately for dental, legal, healthcare, SaaS, home services and local businesses, with city rankings for major US metros. Every eligible provider is scored on the same eight factors: AI SEO specialization, vertical evidence, demonstrated outcomes, AI measurement capability, third-party reputation, market coverage, transparency, and freshness of verification. The weighting and eligibility rules are public in EliteAEO's published methodology.
Listing and verification are free. Paid placements are clearly labeled and never change the editorial order, and EliteAEO does not sell AEO or SEO services itself.
